A power boat collision in Hamilton Harbour on Sunday afternoon killed the pilot and injured the co-pilot, forcing the Bermuda Power Boat Association to stop the races.
A serious collision between a competing power boat and an anchored boat brought the Bermuda Power Boat Association’s Hamilton Harbour Races to an abrupt halt on Sunday afternoon. The racing schedule was suspended immediately after the impact, and race directors ordered the remaining competitors off the course and back to the pits. The pilot suffered a life-threatening head injury, was treated by EMTs, and was later pronounced dead by an on-call doctor. The co-pilot sustained a head laceration, was taken by ambulance to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, and was still receiving treatment. Bermuda Coast Guard and marine police responded within seconds, while officials said the identities of those involved had not yet been made public.
