The Government tabled the Justice and Community Safety Reform Act 2026 in the House of Assembly on Friday. The Bill is designed to strengthen Bermuda’s justice system, support the prosecution of serious crime, protect public servants and improve accountability around bail. If passed, it would amend criminal law in three areas: witness protection, new offences for assaults and intimidation against justice officials and Members of the Legislature, and stronger bail consequences and review mechanisms. Minister of Justice Kim Wilkerson said the legislation would give courts, prosecutors and police stronger tools to respond to serious and gang-related crime while preserving fairness and judicial oversight. The Bill is expected to be debated in the coming weeks.
