Astor House officially opened on Union Street today as a transitional housing facility for men leaving the Department of Corrections. The project is intended to provide stable accommodation and structured support as residents rebuild their lives and reintegrate into the community. Denise Carey, executive director of registered charity Home (HIM), said the facility was developed through a partnership involving the Bermuda Industrial Union, the Bermuda Government and HOME. She said eligible residents must have completed their court orders, served at least three years, be sober, employment-ready and already have work lined up. The programme also involves the Department of Corrections, the Parole Board, the Ministry of National Security, the Ministry of Justice and the Bermuda Credit Union.
